Past, Present, Future...A Tradition of Excellence
The attractiveness of what
could be possible with the addition of polymer to asphalt cement is what
ultimately led to a study to analyze the properties of polymer modified
asphalt and to develop test methods for determining the significance of
these properties. The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company started preliminary
work in this field in 1949. This led to the forming of a new division in
1951 called Rub-R-Road. The Rub-R-Road research and development program
sponsored a study, which would span the next 12 years in conjunction with
the Kentucky Research Foundation and the College of Engineering at the
University of Kentucky.
Out of this research grew
a much better understanding of how polymers could be used in asphalt for
roads and highways. Over the next 40 years Rub-R-Road continued to study
the effects of polymers in asphalt and supply the highway industry with
Rub-R-Road polymers and the technical expertise to use them. In 1975, Rub-R-Road,
Inc. was established as an independent company to continue serving the
paving industry.
Rub-R-Road is uniquely qualified
to help you through the maze of products and construction techniques that
are available to today's Highway Engineers and Contractors. Engineers receive
qualified information and assistance regarding appropriate application
uses, techniques and specifications. Contractors receive helpful assistance
at their plants and on the job site.
Americas Highway System has
been our Proving Grounds since 1951. Thousands of miles of pavements have
been installed with Rub-R-Road latex compounds. These installations have
included innovative construction techniques for a wide variety of climatic
and traffic conditions. Today, Rub-R-Road demands of itself the same excellence
in research, innovation, product quality and customer service as it did
when the company was founded!
Our Tradition is Our Mission
To assist Highway Engineers and Contractors to build and maintain the highest quality
pavements
at the lowest cost.
